"I know that every student is not going
to become a concert pianist, but, in the end, whether they pursue music as a career or enjoy it as a lifelong hobby,
their lives will be enriched."
Ms. Carolyn is teaching a whole new generation
of kids how to play the piano and cultivating a love of music in them. She
began teaching in 2000 with two students and now teaches an average of 90
youngsters a year. She began teaching group lessons but soon developed her
own method. "We learn, play and teach outside the box. We teach the
traditional fundamentals of music but try to be very innovative in our methods.
For example, we bring students into the studio in groups of two or three
at a time according to age and ability. By doing this, the children have
the best of both worlds. They are in a group setting with other children
in theory and computer times but have private lessons at the piano. With
this type of schedule, every student can move at their own pace."
Students are involved in a Solo Festival in February
and a Spring Recital in May. Student performances are wonderful. A parent
stated that he had been to many recitals and had never seen students more
ready to perform.
Carolyn's Keyboard Corner is more than a business.
Along with teaching children how to play the piano, friendships are being
built. "Students can't get started with their lesson until they tell
us what has happened that day. What is happening in this studio is important
and That's A Good Thing."
